WELCOME NEW STUDENTS!
At Duke Universityʼs Nicholas School of the Environment, you will learn, grow, and discover through curricular and co-curricular offerings. You will have a chance to engage in several areas of interdisciplinary exploration by pursuing professional certificates (if applicable), taking courses across professional schools, utilizing the Duke Forest, learning experientially at the Marine Lab, participating in multidisciplinary Bass Connections projects, and more. You will find Duke University to be an enriching, academic environment.
New student Orientation is our opportunity to welcome you to the Nicholas School and Duke University communities. While important, academic sessions and course registration matters are just a part of the experience for new students. Orientation also provides opportunities to build community, make connections with returning students, and establish relationships with faculty advisors and staff administrators. There will be opportunities for you to explore the campus, connect with resources, and meet your academic advisor, classmates, and faculty.
Orientation for new students will occur on Monday, January 5, and Tuesday, January 6. Attendance is required. Spring classes begin on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.
The Office of Student Services at the Nicholas School of the Environment leads the onboarding and Orientation, and we look forward to working with you during your academic career.
