CALCULUS DIAGNOSTIC EXAM RESULTS
What Does Your Score Mean?
Range: 70% and Above
Students scoring 70% and above are permitted to take graduate courses requiring calculus, such as ENVIRON 520 (Resource and Environmental Economics I), ENVIRON 521 (Resource and Environmental Economics II), ENVIRON 635 (Energy Economics and Policy), and ENVIRON 680 (Economics of Forest Resources), if required for their Concentration or should they wish to enroll.
Range: 50% – 69%
Students scoring between 50% and 69% should review calculus carefully (if necessary) by auditing a calculus course or doing some significant self-study to be able to do well in a graduate course requiring calculus. Those scoring in this range are permitted to take ENVIRON 520 (Resource and Environmental Economics I), ENVIRON 521 (Resource and Environmental Economics II), ENVIRON 635 (Energy Economics and Policy) and ENVIRON 680 (Economics of Forest Resources) this semester if needed for their Concentration or should they wish to do so.
Range: Below 50%
Students scoring in this range are not permitted to enroll in ENVIRON 520 (Resource and Environmental Economics I), ENVIRON 521 (Resource and Environmental Economics II), ENVIRON 635 (Energy Economics and Policy) or ENVIRON 680 (Economics of Forest Resources) this semester and should drop the course(s) if already enrolled. Students in this range who enroll in these courses will be administratively dropped from the class roster (if they do not drop themselves). The student should take a remedial course, audit a prerequisite-level course or otherwise study sufficiently to improve their knowledge in calculus and earn an adequate score on the retest given later this fall or next summer. If the student earns an adequate score on the retest, they will be permitted to enroll in ENVIRON 520, 521, 635 or 680 the next time it is offered. Prerequisite level courses (Calculus I and Calculus II) are appropriate for review.
STATISTICS DIAGNOSTIC EXAM RESULTS
What Does Your Score Mean?
Range: 95% and Above
Students with scores of 95% and above who are required to take statistics are permitted to enroll in ENVIRON 710 (Applied Statistical Modeling for Environmental Management) in the appropriate semester. If a student can provide strong rationale and documentation of previous coursework comparable to ENVIRON 710 and desires instead a more specialized statistics course than ENVIRON 710, the student may seek approval from the Program Chair and/or statistics instructor.
Range: 75% – 94%
Students scoring between 75% and 94% are permitted to enroll in ENVIRON 710 (Applied Statistical Modeling for Environmental Management) in the appropriate semester, if required for their Concentration or should they wish to enroll.
Range: 65% – 74%
Students scoring between 65% and 74% are allowed to enroll in ENVIRON 710 (Applied Statistical Modeling for Environmental Management) conditionally and may be required to conduct remedial study at the discretion of the instructor.
Students who do not complete the remedial study, if required, may be asked to withdraw from ENVIRON 710 and enroll in a later term (if the course is required for their Concentration and/or should they wish to reenroll as an elective). If no specific remedial work is given, the student should consider enrolling in a prerequisite level course for review or otherwise study sufficiently to improve their knowledge in statistics.
IMPORTANT! Scores below 70%: This is considered a low passing score. In addition to the guidance provided above, students who scored below 70% should review statistics carefully and are expected to keep up with the content in ENVIRON 710. Students in this category will likely find it helpful to enroll in or audit a prerequisite level course or otherwise study independently to do well in a graduate course requiring statistics.
Range: Below 65%
Students in this range should enroll in a remedial course (for example), audit a prerequisite-level course or otherwise study sufficiently to improve their knowledge in statistics and earn an adequate score on the retest given in late-Fall or next Summer. Prerequisite level courses are appropriate for review.
Students scoring in this range are not permitted to enroll in ENVIRON 710 (Applied Statistical Modeling for Environmental Management). If you have already enrolled in this course, please drop this class. Students in this range who remain enrolled in this course will be administratively dropped from the class roster before the end of drop/add. If the student earns an adequate score on the retest, they will be permitted to enroll in ENVIRON 710 the next time it is offered.
ENVIRON 710 APPLIED STATISTICAL MODELING
In the fall semester, seats in ENVIRON 710, Applied Statistical Modeling for Environmental Management), are reserved for Environmental Economics and Policy (EEP) and Master of Forestry (MF) students. Non-EEP students may request a permission number to enroll, which will be granted in Tier Two if space is still available.
In the spring semester, seats in ENVIRON 710 are reserved for Environmental Analytics and Modeling (EAM) and Master of Forestry (MF) students. Non-EAM students may request a permission number to enroll, which will be granted in Tier Two if space is still available.
