Jan 21, 2021: Mitochondrial toxicity-mediated regulation of the nuclear epigenome

Headshot of Janine Santos, PhD

Janine H. Santos, PhD

Group Leader

National Toxicology Program Laboratory, Division of the National Toxicology Program, NIEHS

She / Her / Hers

In her seminar, Dr. Santos will summarize work from her and others establishing how mitochondrial function can mechanistically affect the epigenetic landscape and exemplify how such interaction can be relevant in vivo.

About the Speaker: Dr. Santos is interested in understanding the broad impact of mitochondrial function to cellular physiology, including from a genomics scale. She has received a PhD in Genetic Toxicology from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil, which was followed by a post-doctoral period at NIEHS where she got involved in studies that tried to understand the effects of mtDNA damage to cell biology. She recently moved to the DNTP (Division of the National Toxicology Program) where her group is focusing on the global effects of mitochondrial toxicity to cardiophysiology.
