Emily Horgen graduated in 2024 cum laude from Yale University, where she double majored in Environmental Studies and East Asian Studies (focusing on Chinese language and culture). She is a student in the Duke University Master’s in Environmental Management Program, concentrating in Environmental Analytics and Modeling and Coastal and Marine Systems.
Emily has worked in environmental policy, climate-tech investing, and biodiversity conservation. These experiences have shaped her research interests, which focus on the impacts of climate change and land use change on trophic ecology. She has studied the role of arthropods in nitrogen cycling in temperate forests and plans to study how predators affect blue carbon storage in coastal salt marshes. Through her research, Emily aims to promote greater communication and collaboration between the public, private, and nonprofit sectors to improve ecosystem conservation and restoration.
