The Front Yard
The Front Yard: The area fronting Circuit Drive
Environment Hall houses the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke. GROW’s gardening areas surround and include areas on this building.
Right outside Environment Hall, you will immediately find benches that beckon passerby’s to sit a spell and to appreciate the environment around them. While relaxing, you will notice native grasses planted to stabilize the soil and slopes around the building.
An extremely special aspect of the front yard is the presence of this young American Chestnut. To read more about the American Chestnut, visit the tab entitled “Our Natural Heritage Collection.”
A winter snowstorm in February of 2014 dusts the front yard with snow.
