While Kim and Andy were in Boulder, we had lunch with Marc Bekoff, one of Kim’s early mentors and an expert on issues of animal behavior, cognitive ethology, behavioral ecology and animal welfare, He has written extensively on these subjects (see some of his recent books), including several volumes with Jane Goodall. Marc is Professor Emeritus of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Colorado, Boulder. We had a very lively, wide-ranging discussion about ethics, animal behavior and the intersection of animal welfare and conservation; a growing field sometimes described as compassionate conservation.
