On March 23rd, Alex Lebow, Director of External Engagement at Nike, and Scott Vitters, Nike’s Senior Director of Environmental Management and Innovation, met with 14 Nicholas School students and 4 Fuqua School of Business students to answer questions about how Nike approaches sustainability and discuss their plans to reach 2020 sustainability targets.
The Nicholas School’s Net Impact student group took a career trek to Seattle and Portland in late 2017 to meet with sustainability representatives and alumni from top corporations, including Nike, where the networking and professional development group made a strong impression on Lebow. The External Engagement Director later reached out to the Nicholas School about setting up a meeting with Duke’s future environmental leaders when he realized he and Vitters would be on Duke’s campus for a conference.
Jeff Meltzer MEM’19, who hosted the meeting on behalf of the Net Impact group, spoke out on the opportunity to meet with the Nike representatives:
“It was extremely valuable to hear from representatives from one of the most well-known companies in the world, which also has one of the most well-developed sustainability programs. By interacting with a company like Nike, students in the Net Impact Club were able to learn from and pick the brains of the very best environmental professionals out there, which helps us redirect our studies and activities so that we can become attractive candidates for these types of jobs.”
