Every year, the Nicholas School Alumni Council competitively selects a handful of Alumni Council Fellows from the current student body in recognition of their exemplary leadership, career and professional development, and engagement with the alumni community. In return for this honor and stipend, Alumni Fellows work together on a project that will benefit the Nicholas community.
Over the past year, 2016-2017 Alumni Fellows Brianna Elliott MEM’17, Janet Larsen DEL-MEM’17 and Nathan Walker MEM’17 laid the groundwork for a new program to link current Nicholas students with alumni mentors to provide career advice and networking opportunities. After gathering input from students and alumni, they presented recommendations to the Alumni Council for a program that would include both short- and long-term mentoring opportunities.
“The Alumni Council Fellows prepared a thorough and thoughtful report on mentoring programs that truly impressed the Alumni Council,” council member Kristen Bremer DEL-MEM’13 said. “In fact, it was so thorough we all agreed it could be submitted as a Master’s Project!”
The trio will now pass the baton to our newest Alumni Council Fellows – Sydney Fishman MEM’18, Lisa Remlinger DEL-MEM’18, and Eric Smith MEM/MBA ’18 – who will continue to develop the program over the coming year, with a goal to conduct a small pilot program that includes clear expectations and training for all parties. If you are interested in participating in this pilot program, contact Glenda Lee, Assistant Director, Alumni Engagement and Programs at gslee@duke.edu.
