Your Impact

We invite you to see all the many ways your generosity has benefited our school and our planet

We are inspired every day by the members of the Nicholas School community who give back to support the school’s mission. Without you, we wouldn’t have laboratory space where researchers can make critical discoveries. We wouldn’t have incredible resources like the Duke Forest and Marine Lab, where students can get hands-on experience protecting our forests and oceans. And we wouldn’t have thousands of students and alumni who are working today (this minute!) to move the needle on issues like climate change, conservation, and environmental health.

Please review our FY25 Annual Fund Impact Report to see what your support has achieved. We hope this conveys the importance of your support in keeping us moving forward, and helps express our immense gratitude for all you do for our school and our environment.

Thanks to your support, the Nicholas School and Duke Marine Lab have engaged with thousands of students, educators, and community members through hands-on environmental programs, resilience initiatives, and STEM education. Our faculty and students are working to inspire the next generation of scientists and conservation leaders while addressing local environmental challenges, and none of this would be possible without you!
The Dean’s Research Venture Initiative (DRVI) is a forward-looking program that takes bold steps to address some of our most urgent environmental issues. This year’s awardees are embracing new AI technologies to move the needle on issues from sea-level rise to climate-resilient agriculture to better models for environmental health assessment. As a result of donor investment in the Nicholas Scholars Program, 15 exceptional new students are at the Nicholas School this year, turning their dreams of becoming environmental leaders into a reality. Each of them brings talent, experience, and ambitious goals for tackling the most pressing environmental challenges we face today.
