Financial Aid for Students Remains School’s Greatest Need

students in the Nicholas School of the Environment learn about various student-run groups that operate within the school

Thanks to many generous donors, the Nicholas School has several endowments that support scholarships and fellowships to help ease the financial burden for some of our master’s and doctoral students. For instance, we are excited that, with funding from five endowments established by alumni and friends, we will be able to offer scholarships that cover two-thirds of tuition to 15 outstanding master’s students in the incoming Class of 2018. These students will be our first group of Nicholas Scholars. Eight additional students will receive named merit scholarships, funded by endowments, to offset the cost of their tuition.

The need for scholarships and fellowships remains great. A financial aid endowment – which can be established through gifts starting at $100,000 – will help support Nicholas students for years to come. Some donors choose to establish an endowment through a planned gift as part of a long-term financial planning strategy. For information on endowments or planned giving, please contact Associate Dean Kevin McCarthy in the Office of Development and Alumni Relations at 919-613-8003 or kevin.p.mccarthy@duke.edu.
