More than 150 alumni congregated at the Nicholas School on the weekend of March 29 to connect with fellow alums over lunch and enjoy a Ted-style talk by Nicholas School faculty. Dean Lori Snyder Bennear welcomed alumni and shared how the Nicholas School is advancing environmental innovations that can make a profit while benefiting people and the planet.
Following her talk, Betsy Albright discussed recovery efforts after natural disasters and the inequity in both impacts from disasters and the recovery process. Then Meagan Dunphy-Daly introduced attendees to the Undergraduate Research Scholars Program, an immersive hands-on experience for Duke undergrads that prepares them for careers in marine research. Finally, Shannon Parker shared her work to commercialize innovative environmental ideas such as Biocoastal Solutions, a startup that came out of the Silliman Lab that focuses on restoring and preserving vital coastal habitats.
