Stay connected to the school and fellow alumni

The Nicholas School hosts events throughout the year, both stateside and internationally, to bring together alumni of different ages and career stages to connect professionally and personally. In addition to our annual alumni reunion on campus, regional groups and networking socials offer great ways to connect. To stay connected and hear about events, visit our news and events website, and be sure to register and update your information on the Duke Alumni Association (DAA) network.

Conversation With the Dean: How Do We Get Smarter, Faster With Wildfire Management and Response?

October 3, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm EDT

Fire is increasingly recognized as a vital component of many ecosystems and greater understanding is necessary for more effective application by environmental managers. But how can we better coordinate, communicate and collaborate more effectively during large-scale, complex natural disasters? Wildfires are our most commonly recurring disasters, so they make a good laboratory for examining complexity in action.

Join Duke alumni from all schools as we hear Toddi Steelman PhD’96, Stanback Dean of the Nicholas School of the Environment, share her experience from the frontlines of this summer’s Yosemite and Ferguson wildfires, discuss the critical role community members have in effective wildfire management and what information people find useful during a disaster.
