Stay connected to the school and fellow alumni

The Nicholas School hosts events throughout the year, both stateside and internationally, to bring together alumni of different ages and career stages to connect professionally and personally. In addition to our annual alumni reunion on campus, regional groups and networking socials offer great ways to connect. To stay connected and hear about events, visit our news and events website, and be sure to register and update your information on the Duke Alumni Association (DAA) network.

Forever Learning Summer Academy with Rebecca Vidra

July 13 - July 19

Feel like a student again!

The Forever Learning Summer Academy is an immersive, weeklong experience for all Duke alumni and friends that combines the intellectual energy of college and the camaraderie of summer camp.

During week two, July 13-19, Rebecca Vidra of the Nicholas School of the Environment will explore the concept of eco-cultural restoration, a strategy that recognizes the importance of both humans and nature. She will discuss efforts now underway to restore thousands of acres of forests, grasslands, wetlands, and coral reefs, and share all the steps from research to project planning to monitoring for success.

Course participants visit local restoration sites on Duke’s campus, meeting with those who are implementing and stewarding these sites. Participants of this course will learn from the Coharie Tribal members from Clinton, N.C., who have led a restoration of the Great Coharie River, which has inspired restoration of their cultural traditions and language, and other examples of cultural practices helping restoration around the globe.

Participants will leave this class with an understanding of the broad range of ecological restoration projects and the promise they hold for creating new relationships with nature and each other.
