An Evening with the Duke Forest: An Incredible Resource

February 15, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm EST

Please join fellow Duke alumni to learn about how Duke Forest’s 7,000 acres enriches the community and is an invaluable resource for both teachers and researchers from the Forest’s director, Sara Childs M.E.M.’08. Whether you spent many of your days in the Forest during your time at Duke or just passively benefited from its existence, this event will instill in you a profound respect for Duke Forest.

Sara will provide an introduction to the forest’s past, present, and future as Duke University’s original living laboratory and outdoor classroom. She’ll explore its role in the university’s origins, its management as a dynamic natural resource, and its new consideration as an anchor in landscape connectivity. Sara will close with insights and directions for managing the forest in an ever-changing world, recognizing that the countless benefits it provides depends on forward-thinking.

Agenda:

  • 6:30 PM – Reception with appetizers, beer, and wine
  • 7:30 PM – Presentation by Sara Childs M.E.M.’08, followed by Q&A
