Stay connected to the school and fellow alumni
The Nicholas School hosts events throughout the year, both stateside and internationally, to bring together alumni of different ages and career stages to connect professionally and personally. In addition to our annual alumni reunion on campus, regional groups and networking socials offer great ways to connect. To stay connected and hear about events, visit our news and events website, and be sure to register and update your information on the Duke Alumni Association (DAA) network.
Co-sponsored by Nicholas School of the Environment, Duke University Graduate School and Duke Initiative for Science and Society
About three-quarters of Americans express trust in scientists to act in the public interest, according to a recent Pew Research Center report. However, there are still significant challenges in communicating science clearly and effectively to the public. Duke DC, with support from the Nicholas School of the Environment and Graduate School alumni groups, invites you to a panel discussion on best practices and innovative ways to communicate science for various audiences. Panelists from the fields of science, journalism, and policy will share their insight into “what works,” how scientists can be effective communicators of their research, and the role of a humanities education in communicating complex scientific topics. The panel will be moderated by Buz Waitzkin, Deputy Director of Duke’s Science and Society Initiative, and will be followed by audience questions.
Registration fees include the program, light appetizers, open bar during networking time prior to program.
