Biography

I completed a PhD in Marine Science and Conservation in the Nicholas School of the Reny TysonEnvironment at Duke University. Before beginning my doctoral studies at Duke I completed a MS in Biological Oceanography and a BS in Psychology at Florida State University. There I examined the distribution, abundance, and behavior of bottlenose dolphins, Tursiops truncatus, along the coastal waters of the northeast Gulf of Mexico.  I also documented nonlinear phenomena in the vocalizations of North Atlantic right whales, Eubalaena glacialis, and killer whales, Orcinus orca.

My current research involves using a combination of data collected from digital acoustic recording tags (DTags) and traditional quantitative fisheries acoustics to examine the foraging ecology of humpback whales, Megaptera novangliae, in the Western Antarctic Peninsula.  I am specifically interested in the behaviors and energetic costs associated with foraging and how these behaviors/costs are affected by prey patch size and structure.  Please visit my personal website for more information.
