Trainee Paige Varner awarded K.C. Donnelly Externship Award

2020 K.C. Donnelly Externship Award winners

Project 5 trainee Paige Varner (Gunsch lab) was one of eleven winners of the NIEHS Superfund Research Program’s K.C. Donnelly Externship Award. Paige will work with Dr. Joshua Michener (Staff Scientist at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tenneessee).

She will study how and which bacteria are most effective at transferring plasmids to other bacteria to encourage PAH degradation. She “will use high-throughput methods to determine the bacterial strains and environmental conditions that promote plasmid transfer and expression of PAH-degrading genes.”

Congrats Paige!
