“After my daughter’s cancer diagnosis, I helped discover our town is a cancer hot spot”

Heather Stapleton’s thyroid cancer cluster research featured in op-ed. The author of the article, Susan Wind, contacted Dr. Stapleton after her daughter was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and other’s in her community came forward. She helped raise more than $100k to fund future study. Dr. Stapleton and Dr. Avner Vengosh are still trying to determine whether coal ash contamination might be linked to the cancer cluster.
