The Duke University Superfund Research Center (DUSRC) would like to honor the life and achievements of Dr. Bruce Brownawell, who passed away on February 2, 2025. Bruce was a chemical oceanographer and environmental chemist who dedicated his career to identifying and tracking pollutants in marine systems. He was a member of the DUSRC External Advisory Board for over 10 years, providing insights and advice that helped propel the excellence of our research center and our members. He was also a strong champion for young scientists and an overall caring and thoughtful individual. In his spare time, Bruce was an avid fisherman who loved spending time on the ocean with family and friends. Bruce and his wife Anne McElroy retired from Stony Brook University in 2021 to start a new life as innkeepers, running a bed-and-breakfast on eastern Long Island.
Bruce- we thank you for all your contributions, and we will miss you dearly.
