Brad Schwartz E’79 and Barb Smit T’79 P’11

Smit earned her B.S. from Duke in Zoology, graduating in 1979. After completing her studies at Duke, she went on to study international economics at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. During her career, she worked as a technical editor and writer in the aerospace industry and later for Arthur D. Little Decision Resources. In addition to the Nicholas School Board of Visitors, she also serves on the Philadelphia Zoological Society Board.

Schwartz, a former President and CEO of Blue Canopy, has had a variety of professional experience creating market leading growth and world-class leadership teams. Some of his past roles have included Executive Vice President of Financial Services, Managing Partner, and Partner-in-Charge. He graduated from Duke with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering/ Electrical Engineering in 1979 and later pursued a Master’s of Business Administration/Management Information Systems from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Much of the progress the Nicholas School has achieved is a reflection of the dynamic volunteer leaders who serve on our board. Throughout the years they have graciously joined in on meetings, task forces, and provided philanthropic support and insight. Their contributions have kept the Nicholas School thriving and we couldn’t be happier to welcome our newest members, Barbara Smit and Bradley Schwartz as our Chair and Vice Chair, respectively.
