MEM Alum Works to Transform Organic Waste into Value-Added Products

Belton Copp MEM’16 is applying the knowledge he gained during his Water Resource Management studies at the Nicholas School to transform wastewater into clean and useable products. While at Duke, Copp led a team of master’s and doctoral students in the creation of a business plan for “Model Earth,” which used proprietary modeling software to enhance water quality and quantity.

Today, he is using these skills in his role as Director of Business Operations at 374Water Inc., a U.S.-based cleantech company that aims to redefine waste management standards. The company’s patented technology transforms organic wastes into products such as distilled water, minerals, and recoverable heat, while destroying contaminants like PFAS.
