Anthony Luz Awarded F31 Grant from NIEHS

Category : Uncategorized

Congratulations to Tony Luz for being awarded The Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Predoctoral Fellowship (Parent F31)!

The Kirschstein-NRSA predoctoral fellowship (F31) award enables promising predoctoral students to obtain individualized, mentored research training from outstanding faculty sponsors while conducting dissertation research in scientific health-related fields relevant to the missions of the participating NIH Institutes and Centers. The proposed mentored research training must reflect the applicant’s dissertation research project and is expected to clearly enhance the individual’s potential to develop into a productive, independent research scientist.

Tony received the award through the NIEHS for a research proposal titled “Genetic Sensitivity to Mitochondrial Toxicity”, which has been the focus of his dissertation research. He proposed to study how deficiencies in mitochondrial homeostasis processes, which cause disease in humans, may sensitize an individual to environmental toxicants.
