DukeFish is the graduate student chapter of the American Fisheries Society at Duke University. Our mission is to promote sustainable fisheries and consumer practices by reaching out to our peers, community members, and local industries through education, outreach, and community participation.
In an effort to promote locally sourced seafood consumption in the Triangle, the 2009 DukeFish leaders conceptualized a community-supported fisheries initiative. Known today as Walking Fish, members in Raleigh, Durham, and Beaufort can receive regular deliveries of fresh North Carolina seafood. Visit the Walking Fish webpage to learn more.
Some of our annual events include education about local seafood at the North Carolina Seafood Festival in Morehead City, aquafarm field trips, lecture series at the Duke Marine Lab in Beaufort and at the main Duke campus in Durham, and Earth Day an Ocean Awareness Week events.
