In the Spotlight: Alex Seymour

Nicholas School alumnus, Alex Seymour (MEM ’16), is a Researcher and Remote Sensing Analyst at the Duke Marine Robotics and Remote Sensing Lab (MaRRS). Alex is an FAA-licensed remote pilot and applies the use of unmanned/unoccupied aerial systems (UAS) to a variety of projects for the MaRRS lab and focuses on the potential to expand UAS use and develop new techniques for UAS use.

Alex recently developed and implemented the first NS Executive Education online course that addresses the use of “Drones for Land Trust Monitoring and Management.”  35 professionals completed the inaugural course. Alex and the MaRRS team, led by Dr. Dave Johnston, shared his expertise this spring while he engaged professionals from a variety of land trusts in the basic uses, requirements and legal implications for operating drone programs for conservation.

We are excited to welcome Alex and the MaRRS team to the cohort of talented instructors teaching Exec Ed courses!
