Weiyi Tang joined the Cassar’s lab in the summer of 2014 as a graduate student after his undergraduate study at Xiamen University in China. Moving from ChangDe (an inland city where he was born) to Xiamen (a beautiful coastal city) gave Weiyi the opportunity to feel the mysterious ocean. Rolling seawater during typhoons and peacefully glistening ocean under sunshine are always attractive to him.
In the magnificent ocean, Weiyi is interested in the role of tiny organisms-phytoplankton in Biogeochemistry especially in the carbon and nitrogen cycling. Now he is developing a shipboard underway system to measure marine N2 fixation.
In his spare time, Weiyi enjoys watching and playing sports such as soccer and basketball. He is learning Ukulele to achieve “live like an artist and work as a scientist”.
