Alexandria Niebergall is excited to begin her first year as a PhD student in the Cassar Lab. Although originally from Canada, Alex moved around a lot in her life, making North Carolina the fifth US state she’s called home. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 2016 with honors in Marine Science.
Alex will be working on NASA’s EXPORTS project studying how microbial community composition, physiological status and degree of coupling influence mixed layer net community production in the ocean.
In her free time, Alex enjoys any activity that takes her outside, especially camping, hiking, and SCUBA diving.
