Duke SRP’s KC Donnelly recipient, Lauren Redfern, is wrapping up her research with UC Berkeley’s SRP. Under the mentorship of Dr. Lisa Alvarez-Cohen, Lauren has been working on biodegradation of contamination mixtures at Superfund sites for the past three months. Specifically, her research focuses on the co-augmentation of Pseudomonas putida G7 and Pseudonocardia dioxanivorans CB1190 bacterial strains to degrade 1,4-dioxane and naphthalene co-contamination. While at Berkeley, she is running a set of microcosms experiments to monitor and optimize co-augmentaion. Lauren returns to Duke next month and she will present her work at the Superfund annual meeting this fall.
