The Graduate School’s PhD Hooding Ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 5:30 p.m. at the Durham Convention Center. The Graduate School will host one ceremony for all PhD graduates. This is a ticket only event, however, PhD candidates and faculty members WILL NOT need a ticket. If you are the primary advisor of a student who recently graduated (September or December 2017) or will be graduating in May 2018, your student may ask you to participate in the 2018 PhD Hooding Ceremony.
Official PhD diplomas will be distributed during the hooding ceremony on Saturday, May 12th at the Durham Convention Center. Students who do not attend will have the option to pick up their diplomas at The Graduate School the week after the ceremony, or have it mailed to them. Consequently, PhD students will not receive their official diplomas at departmental ceremonies. For purposes of the departmental live ceremony, you may choose to have the PhD students receive a blank diploma cover. More information will be provided in 2018.
