Welcome to the course site for the 2016 Executive Leadership Institute session at the Nicholas School of the Environment, Duke University, Durham NC. This program is sponsored by the National Forum for Black Public Administrators (NFBPA). It will take place Thursday January 21 – Saturday January 23, 2016. The workshop is hosted by the Duke Environmental Leadership Program.
Duke University’s theme is Sustainable Cities. As stated by the NFBPA in past years, “As sustainability and related issues are more relevant than ever, public administrators are asked to ‘go green’ and ‘become sustainable’ without a clear definition or road map to guide them.” The workshop’s goal is to help define sustainability in terms and actions that are relevant to public administrators on a national level. Furthermore we seek to provide practical skills and insights to help inspire participants to implement sustainability projects of their own.
We will explore topics related to community sustainability such as economic development, education, and health and human services. We have designed a pre-post assessment project to help you explore a sustainability challenge in your own community.
