R/V Richard T. Barber – Vessel Characteristics and Specifications

The R/V Richard T. Barber is a high-performance aluminum vessel manufactured by Safe Boats International in Bremerton, Washington.  More than a thousand vessels of this design have been supplied to the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Navy, and various Law Enforcement and First Responder agencies across the nation.  Unique features that have contributed to the success of the design include 5/16” hull and deck plate (5086 Aluminum) welded to 5 stringers with angled transverse framing on 12” centers.  This produces a hull and deck of immense strength and rigidity.  There is no bilge.  A rip-stop polyurethane covered ballistic foam collar provides reserve buoyancy, stability and allows low freeboard.  The vessel is self-bailing even with no forward momentum and will not sink if fully flooded or if the hull is breached.
