On Saturday May 14, the Nicholas School of the Environment held its Recognition Ceremony for this year’s MEM, MF, and PhD graduates. It is always a proud moment to see our dedicated DEL-MEM students join the ranks of distinguished Nicholas School alumni! The sun shone brightly as students lined up, straightening their caps and gowns, ready to proceed towards the stage.

This year’s ceremony was a particularly momentous occasion, as it marked the 25th anniversary of the School of the Environment. Norman L. Christensen, Founding Dean and Professor Emeritus at the Nicholas School, gave the keynote address. He reflected on the challenges and successes of the School over the years, and also provided a poignant reminder that communication across disciplines is crucial to solving our environmental problems.

The ceremony was followed by a reception at Environment Hall. Although it was bittersweet to see our DEL-MEM cohort united for the last time, we look forward to hearing about the great things that our alums will accomplish. (Remember to stay in touch on our Facebook page and Twitter!) As Founding Dean Norm Christensen said, “This is the end of nothing: It is the beginning of everything.”
