DEL-MEM bannerThis year’s D.C. Leadership Module is only a month away! The annual trip is the hallmark of the DEL-MEM program, providing students with a point of reference for their leadership development through individual meetings with prominent leaders. Speakers at the last module in 2013 included Larry Selzer, President/CEO of The Conservation Fund; Robert Perciasepe, Deputy Administrator of the U.S. EPA; and U.S Senator of Alaska, Lisa Murkowski. Students are eagerly awaiting the confirmation of this year’s lineup. In light of the ever-increasing political heat around our nation’s capital, we anticipate exceptional discussions on environmental leadership.

To complete the experience, student groups assume the role of a “leadership coach” or consultant. Based on their interactions with environmental leaders, students will present analysis and advice relative to their leadership on a personal level, an organizational level, and on a broader scale. DEL-MEM alumni rave that the Leadership Module is the pivotal learning experience over the course of the two-year program. As one student stated, “I learned a lot about myself on this trip – being comfortable in my discomfort.”

The DEL-MEM program serves experienced environmental professionals, helping them to develop an interdisciplinary perspective of environmental issues, broaden their skillset, and define their leadership style. We believe that leadership is a process cultivated by each individual, and it can’t always be taught in a classroom. The immersive four-day Leadership Module is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that gives students the opportunity to develop their own personal roadmap for growth as a leader.
