Duke University’s Nicholas School of the Environment presented the 2013 Duke LEAF award to author Alexander McCall Smith during a 4 p.m. ceremony on Friday, April 12, in Griffith Film Theater, located in the Bryan Center on West Campus.  This award is presented annually to an artist whose work has lifted the human spirit by conveying our profound spiritual and material connection to the Earth and thereby inspiring others to help forge a more sustainable future for all.  Past recipients of the Duke LEAF Award are Robert Redford, Jackson Browne, Barbara Kingsolver and John Sayles.  The Nicholas School website has provided more information on McCall Smith’s accomplishments as well as a photo slideshow of event coverage.  — compiled from Nicholas School media releases
