Guidelines for Mid-Year Presentations

Guidelines for Mid-Year Presentations

Each student will deliver a 3-minute talk describing their MP or Capstone during the December place-based session. A question and answer period will follow, once all the presentations are completed.

For the class of 2018, students should prepare 4 PowerPoint slides as follows:

  1. Title, advisor
  2. Question/topic you are examining
  3. Methods, data and analysis to be employed
  4. Preliminary findings and next steps

For the class of 2019, students should prepare 4 PowerPoint slides as follows:

  1. Title, potential faculty advisor
  2. Question/topic you are examining
  3. For MP: Methods, data, and analysis to be employed. For Capstone: Sketch of proposed final product and any methods/courses/projects you will employ
  4. Timeline for MP or Capstone work for remaining 3 semesters and summer.

Delivery of a succinct talk is a critical skill to master. Please be sure that your talk does not last more than 3-minutes, you use no more than the 4 above-defined slides, and that your slides are informative, but not overly busy.

Refer to “Guidelines for Giving a Truly Terrible Talk” in preparing your presentation.
