Change Your Concentration

Prior to the start of the fall semester, incoming students may request a change in their concentration(s) or program area of study. The summer deadline to request a change in your concentration (or program area of study) is June 15. Approvals or denials are determined by the Program Chair for each Concentration. Within the form, the student must provide a reason for the change request by highlighting the academic and career benefits.

The student must also acknowledge whether or not they have taken (or plan to take) the required and/or recommended prerequisites for the Concentration that you wish to switch into. Keep in mind, students may not matriculate in the fall with more than one required prerequisite deficiency. Priority will be granted to those students who have already met the prerequisite requirements for the Concentration that they seek to move into – there may be other considerations as well.

Students who were admitted/matriculated in fall 2022 or earlier must follow the prerequisite requirements in place in the year that they matriculated (i.e., they are grandfathered in under the old prerequisite policy).

Concentration/Program Area Change / NSOE Degree Add Request Form

After the summer deadline, incoming students may request a change in their Concentration/Program Area of Study during Orientation and up until the end of the first year of enrollment. Enrolled students must complete a different form once the school year gets underway. Approvals or denials are determined by the Program Chair for each program area/concentration. In some but not all cases, a new academic advisor will be assigned to the student.

Students who request a change in their Concentration/Program Area of Study by the June 15 deadline will be notified of the decision no later than the week of July 10.

Add the MEM or MF Degree

Students who are interested in adding the Master of Environmental Management or Master of Forestry degree may do so either pre- or post-matriculation. The summer deadline to add the MEM or MF degree is June 15. Approvals or denials are determined by the Program Chair. Within the form, the student must provide a reason for the Nicholas School degree add and are encouraged to highlight academic and career benefits. Keep in mind, students may only matriculate in the fall with no more than one required prerequisite deficiency.

The student must also acknowledge whether or not they have taken (or plan to take) the required and/or recommended prerequisites for the Concentration that you wish to switch into. Students who matriculated in fall 2022 or earlier must follow the prerequisite requirements in place in the year that they matriculated (i.e., they are grandfathered in under the old prerequisite policy). Priority will be granted to those students who have already met the prerequisite requirements for the Program Area/Concentration that they seek to move into – there may be other considerations as well.
